About this deal
The glasses have taken some direct hits – smaller stones flicked up by large vehicles – without showing any signs of superficial let alone more serious damage. None have inspired much confidence and I've always gone back to my Oakleys but the Blades have a very top quality feel to them. Off-road, they tended to bounce around a little – worth noting if you're fond of mixed terrain riding or take towpath cut-throughs on your commute – but they are geared towards road riding. The half-frame has the sophisticated air of full-frames but works just fine in casual settings as well. The smoke lens delivers true colour rendition, while the gold lens has a coating to increase contrast and battle glare.

Though slightly flexy feeling, the frames have stood up to the usual, everyday carelessness so there's no reason to think they would fail under normal use. They protect your eyes from debris, UV and glare, resist fogging and arguably look pretty good while doing it.These are perfect to accommodate thick lenses and thus work well for prescription glasses with complex lens power. The dhb Photochromatic Half Frame Sunglasses offer decent performance in a variety of conditions without looking obviously technical or breaking the bank. This classic style is a sunny day essential - featuring slim aviator half frames with a metallic finish, as well as silicone nose pads and tinted ombre lenses.

Every now and then when riding I have had a stone flick up from a passing car and the odd one has harmlessly bounced off the Bolles. One area where these glasses take a back seat is that they tend to be a little heavier when compared to half-frame or rimless glasses. Eyewear manufacturers have raised their game for both quality and style, and enforcement of standards means you can rely on even cheap cycling glasses to protect your eyes from potentially damaging ultra-violet. The bottle green/smoke lens option I tested has a mid-range tint, making it dark enough for casual summer use without being so dark you can't use it in slightly lower light too. The arms are less tenacious than some designs, but have gone unnoticed, with no hint of discomfort even on day rides, keeping the glasses exactly where I've wanted them. From ultra-trendy to chic and classic, you'll find half-rim glasses that perfectly accentuate your individual look.
