About this deal

Even if you use Vitax Q4 as a general slow release fertiliser at the beginning of the season the Vitax Premium liquids range will really help to give your plants a boost. Vitax Q4 Premium liquid fertilisers have been specially developed to give your plants all the benefits of Vitax Q4 straight away. You are reminded of the following legal requirements relating to the purchase and use of professional pesticides. Jimmytheone - I do it annually because I'm doing other people's gardens, but sometimes I don't, and that decision is made based on whether the client was prepared to stump up for the cost of the topdressing of composted manure or whatever from the garden centre the previous year (they often aren't) and also how wet the winter's been.

Originally developed for use as a base fertiliser in John Innes composts, and still approved for use in John Innes formulations, Q4 has proved an extremely versatile fertiliser suitable for use on a wide variety of crops. An outstanding all-purpose fertiliser, Q4 Pelleted Fertiliser is a favourite amongst experienced gardeners and a ‘must have’ product. They create an artificial growing environment that is difficult and expensive to maintain, if you don't the plants will suffer. Originally developed for professional growers, Vitax Q4 fertiliser has proved to be an outstanding general purpose fertiliser for use on a whole range of crops, including fruit, vegetables, flowers and roses. I should also mention that ericaceous plants such as rhododendrons and camellias need specific fertilisers; they are fussy feeders and cannot cope with the high nutrient levels of general fertilisers. Organic fertilizers are naturally occurring substances and include biofertilizers, green manure, organic manure and compost.

But I wonder if the average gardener can tell the difference between a plant that looks fine and one that looks something slightly better, then do we need to feed for feeding's sake? I know phosphate is lacking on my poor, sandy soil that’s why I always get hopeless results with crops such as beetroot and carrots. Some products may be delivered straight to your door from one of our suppliers and these products will be labelled within the product description. Winter rainfall (we’ve certainly had our fair share of that in the UK) washes soluble nutrients from the soil which can leave them in short supply for plants at a critical time. Soils rich in organic matter re also better at hanging on to nutrients and supplying them to plants’ roots.

For roses Vitax Q4 should be mixed with the soil prior to planting and then used as an annual dressing every Spring.
