Yes," says Malcolm. "UV sterilisers are safe for sterilising baby's equipment providing the instructions for correct use are followed, and the items to be sterilised are suitable." Self-sterilising bottles: These work in a similar way to microwave steam sterilisers. Simply fill the base of the bottle with cool water and pop it in the microwave. They're super easy to use and a great option for when you are on the go. The only downfall is you are only sterilising one bottle at a time.

Steam sterilisers are now being developed with fast cycles, which is always a winner, and they're a great option if you don't have a microwave in your kitchen. If you wish to leave the products inside the steriliser you can use the storage mode which will keep them sterile. Poonam: Sterilising is a huge part of my day-to-day life as a busy mum of two under 2. Having used different types of sterilisers in the past, from steam to microwave, to cold sterilising, my biggest issue continued to be that the items were always wet! And you cannot dry them because then it would no longer be sterile. This is where the Tommee Tippie UV steriliser and dryer comes into play. Not only does it sterilse but it dries and stores the bottles, dummies, teethers etc and there is no faffing with measuring the correct amount of water. It is as simple as rinse, place, press a button and let the gadget do its job. Sanitising - This will kill bacteria, removing them from surfaces that your baby may be touching like the table. Do I need to sterilise bottles after every wash?Press this button to start a drying then sterilising cycle for 60 minutes in total, drying only first for 25 minutes then sterilising and drying for 35 minutes. Sarah: Comparing this to a microwave steriliser, the UV steriliser is by far the easier option and less hassle, making life as a mum that bit easier. However, although stylish the steriliser is large and therefore in a small kitchen like ours, it took a large amount of kitchen space, particularly as it had to be kept 10cm from the wall. I would compare it to a microwave on your workspace. Additionally it is not transportable for staying at family/holiday. So although the preferred option for the majority of the time, we additionally needed a option for when staying away from home. What changes would you make to this product? The steriliser uses UV light which can cause damage to your eyes and skin. Please don’t stare at the light source. Ensuring your baby bottles, accessories and breastfeeding equipment are sterile is extremely important, especially in your little one’s first year. Their immune system isn’t yet fully developed and they’re more susceptible to illnesses than older babies and toddlers. Sterilising their feeding equipment goes beyond keeping things clean – it’s about getting rid of any leftover milk residue that might be lingering and protecting them from harmful bacteria that can cause tummy bugs.

Using UV light, the Tommee Tippee Ultra is a safe and dry method of sterilising which kills 99.9% of harmful germs without using heat, steam or harsh chemicals. You can rest assured that it sterilises those hard to reach areas, getting rid of germs that may linger in bottles, teats, breast pumps and other accessories even after thorough washing. You do not need to carry out any maintenance to this product other than cleaning, and descaling is not necessary.Wash items you want to sterilise in warm soapy water, rinse and drain before placing in the steriliser. Don’t put dripping wet items into the steriliser, as water can gather at the base. If there is water at the base or leaking from the steriliser, you must turn off the machine and wipe away water. When the storage function is selected, it emits five minutes of UV light and five minutes of drying power every two hours to keep the contents sterile.

It's important to clean bottles, teats and other feeding equipment in hot, soapy water and rinse all your equipment before sterilising.

You get a spare sponge filter with the product; you can use this spare if you have lost or damaged the original sponge filter.

Hollie: It saves me time because I previously used a steam steriliser and with this one there's no need to add water or descale the steriliser which I needed to do really often because the water is hard where I live. I can now sterilise all of my breast pump parts with this product because the UV doesn't damage the materials unlike my previous steam steriliser. There's also no risk of burning myself with hot water or steam with UV which I did plenty of times with a steam steriliser when opening it too soon. Would you recommend this to other parents? Convenience: Does it make the task of sterilising easier and more efficient? Does it take up minimal time? Hollie: I would compromise on the compact design for a larger unit so that I could use it less often and save more time. I can fit 6 bottles in it but if I could fit 8 or 9 in, I'd only need to sterilise them once a day or less. I was initially concerned that the 60 minute cycle would be too long but it hasn't actually been an issue because I put it on when I go to bed.

A: We recommend a 10cm gap to allow for ventilation, this protects your work surfaces and the unit.
