Description

The novel’s characters contains the elegant and the rich. No no, it is not that superficial. They are smart as well just remember.

Captivated once more by her island escape, bittersweet memories resurface of one summer, one unforgettable man, and a long-hidden secret. Ariana Theodosis inherits the Hotel du Soleil on the French Riviera after the death of her beloved grandmother, but the hotel holds a secret. Its former owner, Madeleine du Lac, has become a virtual recluse since the death of her husband over twenty years earlier, and the hotel's once glamorous image is now tarnished by age and dilapidation. Carina is marrying her childhood sweetheart, Giorgio, who has secrets of his own and isn’t who he appears to be. Edie is Carina’s friend and bridesmaid. This emerging Hwood actress has secrets she cannot reveal. Phillipa, Carina’s mother, has a happy life but finds things drifting apart. Complications arise when her former lover enters the scene. Ariana decides to go to visit the hotel, where she clashes with the former owner, who didn't know that the hotel didn't belong to his family. When she gets there the Carnes film festival is taking place and Hollywood has moved to France.

Utterly engaging, deliciously escapist, with a heart as warm as its author's’ CATHY KELLY, bestselling author of The Family Gift The parallels between Phillipa and Carina’s lives are interesting. Though it doesn’t do justice to their ‘intelligence’, it offers a little something to ponder about in a mother-daughter relationship. (Not sure if this was intended, but anyhoo). Shauna and Demetrios’s romance is bitter sweet. He has been born into wealth, but that comes at a price. And Shauna's ‘'Cinderella’ moment with him is soon curtailed by his mother Elana.

It’s pure, perfect romance, wonderful setting, beautiful, privileged, slim, perfect people. You know who’s going to fall for whom and there’s no great surprises. Of course, there are some ‘bad guys’ but they are the ‘less perfect ones’. I finished the book because I said I would, but it’s just not my ‘cup of tea’. This book transports you to the glamour and beauty of the Côte d’Azur, where we meet new and old characters who are all at turning points in their lives. This will surely be a hit with those wanting to explore beautiful landscapes, hob nob with the rich and famous and go on a journey of self discovery and healing without ever leaving their home. A beautifully written, romantic tale.

I loved losing myself in this story. I don't mind the unashamed name dropping ... again, I was reminded of my author heroine Penny Vincenzi as mentions of famous film stars and top brand designers were littered throughout the story, and for me, this only adds to total glamour of it all. Ariana is a bit jaded by her LA lifestyle and is trying to escape a scandal, so heads off to explore her inheritance.

Wayward Greek heiress, Ariana Theodosis, inherits the Hotel du Soleil as part of a mysterious legacy. Captivated by its faded glamour, she hopes it offers her the chance to start again. I loved this book. It sweeps you away to the glamorous French riviera and is the perfect holiday read. There is an element of mystery, as Arianna tries to uncover the how the hotel ended up in her possession and the characters are brilliantly weaved in, so that you feel like you know them. I read this in one day as I did not want to put it down. With secrets surrounding the transfer of ownership of the hotel, and the tragedy that surrounds it, will Ariana and Gabriel ever work out their differences about the ownership of the hotel. The writing style is easy, almost too easy, and highly simplified. While this adds to the pace, it doesn’t evoke enough emotions to connect with the characters. Still, I wanted Giorgio to get his due for being an absolute douchebag, so one character did inspire strong emotions in me.

Hotelier Gabriel du Lac’s family have owned the hotel for decades – and he has no intention of giving it up for a beautiful stranger. The Hotel on the Riviera continues the story of the Theodosis family from Under a Greek Moon, although you don’t have to have read this first book to enjoy this book. A certain small yet highly influential character says, ‘ No man is worth losing your self-respect…’ Indeed! In its hey day the hotel was THE place to be seen in Cannes, a mecca for the glitterati attending the film festivals and summering at the beach. Nowadays it is looking a little the worse for wear, shabby and unloved. The hotel had belonged to the Du Lac family for decades and its matriarch is a recluse still ensconced in the penthouse on the top floor. The Du Lac family has their secrets and Madame Du Lac is clinging onto them with her fingertips. As the story unfolds both families learn secrets from the past and new friendships are made for the future.
