Description

Ripe mangoes can be refrigerated —this will slow down their ripening process. They can be kept this way for 5 days, if they're whole. When they're peeled and cut, they can be kept in your refrigerator in an airtight container for several days. You can freeze them for up to 6 months.

Thai producers’ promotional activities are supported by the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP) of the Ministry of Commerce. The DITP regularly organizes national pavilions for Thai exporters at leading European trade shows. The current strategy of DITP is to increase online sales by Thai companies through such online markets places as Thaitrade and Alibaba. In addition to its exports of naturally dried mangoes, Thailand is the world’s leading exporter of candied mangoes. This type of product is sometimes defined as ‘dehydrated mangoes’ on the European market, but this definition is not precise enough. Mexico: producer of high-quality dried mangoes Retailers rarely buy directly from exporters in developing countries. One new development is the polarization of the retail sector into discounters and high-level segments. Until recently, naturally dried mangoes were offered primarily by high-end retail segments. In the past two years, however, dried mangoes are also offered by several large European discounters (such as ‘Simply Nature’ dried mangoes by ALDI and ‘Alesto’ dried mangoes and dried pineapples by Lidl). Read our study on Trends relating to the European market for processed fruit, vegetables and edible nuts for an overview of the developments of the sustainability initiatives in the European market.

Due to statistical data limitations, it is not possible to calculate exact export quantities of dried mangoes from Mexico. According to industry estimates, however, Mexico is likely to be the world’s largest producer of dried mangoes, producing more than 17,000 tonnes per year. The majority (nearly 90%) of all dried mangoes are exported to the United States. In 2020, Mexican exports of dried mangoes to the United States reached a volume of almost 15,000 tonnes. Mexico exports only a modest and fluctuating volume of mangoes to Europe. The main South American competitor for Mexican dried mangoes in Europe is Peru.

In Ghana, the main mango-growing areas are in the south-eastern region, mostly in the Dangme West and Somanya Districts. More than 500 farmers specialize in mango production, with a total of 5,600 acres covered by mango plantations. Although there are several drying facilities for dried fruit in Ghana, the largest quantities are exported by the Swiss/Ghanaian company HPW (read more about this company in the section below). The Philippines: emerging supplier This method begins with the selection of the choicest fresh mangoes ripened enough to give you that rich mango flavor and excellent aroma.Fruit bars are increasingly being offered in many varieties. Organic fruit bars are on the increase (especially in Germany). In some fruit bars, naturally dried mangoes are used as the main fruit ingredient, while other bars consist mainly of dehydrated fruit puree. Visit leading European trade fairs regularly to meet competitors and potential customers. Examples include ANUGA, SIAL and Food Ingredients Europe. To be marketed as organic in Europe, dried mangoes must have been grown using organic production methods according to European legislation. Growing and processing facilities must be audited by an accredited certifier before you will be allowed to put the European Union’s organic logo on your products. The same applies to the logo of the standard holder (for example, the Soil Association in the United Kingdom, Naturland in Germany or Agriculture biologique in France). Companies have different requirements for social responsibility. Some companies will require adherence to their own codes of conduct or common standards, such as the Supplier Ethical Data Exchange ( SEDEX), Ethical Trading Initiative ( ETI) or the Business Social Compliance Initiative code of conduct (amfori BSCI). It is estimated that Burkina Faso produces between 3,000 and 4,000 tonnes of dried mangoes each year. Most of the dried mangoes in that country are exported to Europe (around 3.5 thousand tonnes), with Germany and the Netherlands being main destination markets. Burkina Faso thus supplies around half of all dried mangoes in Europe. In addition to exports to Europe, Burkina Faso exported nearly 200 tonnes to the United States of America. Although different food safety certification systems are based on similar principles, some buyers may prefer one specific management system. For example, British buyers often require BRC, while IFS is more common for German and French retailers. It is also important to note that food safety certification is only a basis for starting to export to Europe. Serious buyers will usually visit/audit your production facilities before starting any cooperation. Corporate social responsibilityUnderstand the pressure from retailers to provide sustainable products, and increase your competitiveness by investing in several certification schemes related to CSR, organic or food safety. Food safety certification is the minimum requirement for reaching the retail segment.

The food-processing segment accounts for roughly 20% of the European market for dried mangoes. This small percentage is explained by the relatively high prices of dried mangoes compared to most other dried fruit.
