It is still a great read to follow and see what happened aboard the Eisenstein after the events of Isstvan III.

This said I definitely enjoyed the book, devouring it almost entirely in one train journey, and I'm looking forward to the next few installments in the series. This book is bloody brilliant and seriously one of Swallows crowning achievements of his great, if vacillating in quality, work with Black Library. Der Tragödie nächster Abschnitt führt uns nun zu den Astartes der Death Guard mit ihrem abtrüngigen Primarch Mortarion. If you've made it this far, yeah you've read some of the best books in this series and from Black Library and the quality might start to vacillate quite wildly from here on, but there is so much more phenomenal stuff here and I'm excited and determined to cross the Rubicon.

Das tut dem Werk sehr gut, und so liegt mit "Flight of the Eisenstein" ein spannender Teil der Horus Heresy-Reihe vor. Garro stands for the original old Death Guard known as The Dusk Raiders whom were later renamed Death Guard once their Primarch Mortarion was found by the Emperor. Human drama is fine, military action is fine but want I want to read about is the Primarchs and this book had them.

And although it was good to read from that point, there wasn't really that excitement that the first three books had. The escape from the Istvaan system was awesome, and the journey through the warp and battle with Grulgor's men/Nurglings was fun as hell. The trial of the story begins with an opening engagement (seems to be the norm with early HH novels) against the Jargall, a race of bio-mechanical nobodies if I’m honest. If you've made it this far, you're probably familiar with the past three books, which tells the tale of Horus and his betrayal up to this point. Regardless of any flaws though, Flight of the Eisenstein is a sold entry into the series and one that you shouldn’t really miss. You’re not going to get brilliant personas from the Death Guard, but they were either dull and rigid or hateful and vengeful. The novel follows the Eisenstein's escape from Istvaan III (see Galaxy in Flames) and its voyage across the galaxy in an attempt to reach and warn the Emperor of Mankind on Terra.

Unfortunately for him, to reach Terra, "Eisenstein" must pass trough the warp and there the foulest of the Chaos Gods will rise unspeakable monsters against him. Here instead, we're given a book of fully-fleshed characters with dreams, desires and motivations, set against a backdrop of war, intrigue and a literal fight for one's soul. All of the Horus Heresy books have astonished me with how much better written they were than I expected. Swallow is one of Black Library’s authors who you can often count upon to produce a strong, solid Bolter-Porn novel and whilst Flight of the Eisenstein may not be all bolter-porn, it certainly does have a considerable amount of action. In the Warp the ship's Geller engines fail, allowing a horde of undead rotting Plague Marines aboard. Still a thoroughly entertaining read, and a fantastic alternate view of some of the events of the opening trilogy.

Those of you who read the first three of the serie will read it just to follow the story line and you won't be disappointed. However, the book itself benefits from having a smaller dramatis personae from Counter’s first novel in the series, or at least once the action reaches the Eisenstein. Kao sto sam verovatno i rekao u predhodnim revjuima, nisam znao sta da ocekujem od ovog univerzuma i od ovih knjiga, ali evo citam cetvrtu i veoma sam zadovoljan onim sto nalazim u njima. The middle is most statisfying especialy if you have read the previous books because now the storryline from Galaxy in Flames carries on.

Radnja ove knjige se preplice sa radnjom predhodne te mozemo videti iz jos jednog ugla Horusovu izdaju i zverstvo pocinjeno na Isstvanu III. I also liked the character arcs of a few players such as Voyen and Decius, and the depiction of Rogal Dorn was spot on. However, Swallow does an excellent job of introducing us to the new characters; a talent that I both love and despise, because I'm a giant softy and I hate it when well liked characters die. It feels that each author is really trying to leave their own mark on the series which I think is keeping the quality a level above what I was expecting.
