There are no obvious panels to allow hardware upgrades. To access the replaceable components you have to remove the base of the case. More on that later. The Legion 5 15 Gen.6 focuses on the core components of a gaming laptops and offers plenty of performance with a fast 165 Hz display. The problems with the automatic graphics switching are annoying though and should be fixed as soon as possible.Granted, the Zephyrus G15 isn't getting blown away here, but in our Total War: Three Kingdoms and Metro: Exodus benchmarks, the Legion 5 Pro consistently gets between five and 10 more fps than the Asus Zephyrus G15, regardless of graphics settings.

The Ryzen 7 5800H is a familiarly great CPU from AMD. It’s got eight multi-threaded cores alongside base and boost speeds of 3.2GHz and 4.4GHz. The rest of the specification is entirely normal: the Lenovo has 16GB of dual-channel memory and a 512GB SSD alongside dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5 and Gigabit Ethernet. There’s a standard HD webcam on this model. It takes a decent picture but it’s nothing special at all. The colors are bland even in normal light and the low light correction is far from good. It passes for the occasional use I suppose and is better than not having one at all. Cinebench is often a good predictor of our Handbrake video-editing trial, another tough, threaded workout that's highly CPU-dependent and scales well with cores and threads. In it, we put a stopwatch on test systems as they transcode a standard 12-minute clip of 4K video (the open-source Blender demo movie Tears of Steel ) to a 1080p MP4 file. It's a timed test, and lower results are better.Metro: Exodus (1080p): 132 fps (Low); 71 fps (Ultra, no ray tracing); 61 fps (ultra with ray tracing enabled)

Competitors to the Legion 5 15 include other mid-range 15.6-inch gaming laptops like the Razer Blade 15 Base Edition, Asus TUF Gaming F15, MSI Bravo 15, or Acer Aspire Nitro 5. The Legion 5 15 should not be confused with the Legion 5 Pro which is a larger 16-inch design. Speed meets endurance when you play with a gaming laptop powered by AMD Ryzen™ processors. Seize the pure performance you need to win, without compromising battery life. It is a fast screen though, and paired with a 3070, it makes most games run over 100fps even at max settings. As for the GPU compute, the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 has an excellent score, making it suitable for intensive tasks like video editing and 3D animation. If you want even better performance, go with the RTX 3060, 3070, or the AMD Radeon RX 6600M. The GTX 1650 can get the job done, but you might experience some stutters and frame drops here and there, and it'll take longer to complete tasks. I think I can say with some certainty that the cheap RAM is only limited to Lenovo’s 16GB modules and the 32GB models are safe. It can also be noted that there is little reason not to OC your GPU in the BIOS, as it only adds performance and carries negligible changes in temps. The 3070 is the laptop version, which gives and takes against the desktop version. Power limit is reduced from 220W to 130W in this case, and the number of shaders are also lower going from 5888 to 5120. So expect performance to be somewhat lower. Due to limitations of the APU, the 3070 is only connected by PCIe 3.0 x8 lanes. This has been shown by other's testing to have a tiny impact on performance in gaming use cases. Resizable BAR is enabled in the system.

This is an above-average rating. Nevertheless, it should not be forgotten that about one fifth of all tested models receive a better rating. The second string to the Legion 5’s bow is a highly efficient cooling system. Despite the fans being quieter than most gaming laptops even when running at full speed, they do a very good job of expelling hot air. Place your hand next to either of the side vents just forward of the hinge and you can really feel a strong current of hot air being pushed out.

The WORST Trend In Gaming

There is a single 512GB NVMe SSD from SK Hynix. A search for the reported part number came up with nothing. CrystalDiskMark gave sequential speeds of 3.5 GB/s reads and 3.0 GB/s writes, which is decent for a PCIe 3.0 SSD. 4kQ1 random reads were unremarkable and about expected for a mid range NVMe SSD. Once opened, you get a good look at the screen, which is surrounded by a plastic bezel. The left and right bezels are pretty small, which is the standard nowadays. The top bezel is a little larger and the bottom bezel is twice the size. There’s a Legion logo centered on the bottom bezel and a standard webcam centered at the top. The laptop has built in speakers and they produce not a bad sound. Maybe amongst the better ones I've heard from any laptop, although that isn't setting the bar too high. Basically it is good enough you wont be reaching for external speakers to watch media content or game assuming you're not disturbing those around you, or even want to share content. The keyboard on the 17” version is almost identical to the keyboard on the 15” Legion 5. I had zero trouble typing on it, as I’ve adapted pretty well to typing on Legion keyboards for the past several months.
